Chorlton Library is the second busiest library in Manchester and the centre of Chorlton life. The library has recently undergone a refurb – with new books, comfy sofas and computers – and it's a great place to study or discover new reads. It hosts the brilliant Chorlton Book Festival every year. The historic building's listed, too: it was first funded by Scottish-American sponsor Andrew Carnegie back in 1914.

All of Manchester's libraries have restricted and changing opening hours due to ongoing coronavirus restrictions; check with individual libraries for opening times before you set out.
