Winner of Visit England’s gold prize for Large Visitor Attraction of the Year in 2016 and winner of the Art Fund’s Museum of the Year in 2015, the Whitworth was originally founded in 1889 as the first English gallery in a park.

Following recent investment, the gallery has doubled in size and offers visitors welcoming and beautiful outdoor spaces that fully embrace the surrounding Whitworth Park. With an art garden designed by Sarah Price, a sculpture terrace and orchard garden, alongside many new outdoor areas and a cafe in the trees, visitors can appreciate the beauty inside and outside the walls of the gallery. A wonderful day out for all ages in a beautiful setting.

With a year round family programme of activity including welly walks and outdoor art club, there is plenty for families to enjoy. Boasting work by some of the world’s most respected artists alongside eclectic exhibitions, the Whitworth is one of Manchester's must-see cultural highlights.
