A small but perfectly formed museum that tells the story of the Rochdale Pioneers. It was once a shop, which opened way back in 1844, selling butter, flour, sugar and oatmeal at honest and ethical prices. That may seem obvious now, but back then being able to buy the basics at a fair price wasn't easy (workers in places such as Greater Manchester often paid high prices for things like flour and sugar). The idea took off, became the Co-operative movement (which spread right around the world), and still exists today - in the form of the Co-op shops in everyone's local neighbourhood. Revolutionary then, relevant today.
