Short Story WritingSupporter: The Short Story
About this opportunity
Supporter: The Short Story
Fancy yourself a short story writer and want to have your work published online?
Given the current Coronavirus lockdown and the difficulties faced by parents, The Short Story wants to offer an outlet for kids’ creativity and encourage them to get writing short stories!
They are accepting submissions from anyone, anywhere in the world aged 6 – 18, including Our Pass holders, their friends, and family members.
Short stories should be original work, written in English, and no longer than 1000 words. There is no minimum word count.
The short stories will be read by The Short Story's Senior Editor, Rupert Dastur, who will be using his experience as an English tutor to select the best work. They will aim to publish one or two stories a week to their website.
He will be looking for:
- A strong sense of beginning, middle, and end.
- Good vocabulary
- Powerful imagery
- Age and first language will be taken into account.
Stories should be sent as a Word Document to: email@example.com.
In the subject of the email, please put ‘Kid’s Story’. In the email, please include name, age, region of the author and whether the story is written in first or second language.
Each selected story will be published online, and The Short Story will also send parents £15 via PayPal for each published story, which they encourage to be spent on books for their children.
Please note that due to limited time and money, The Short Story will only be able to publish a small number of pieces, but they encourage everyone to have a go at writing one!
Submissions are likely to remain open until the lockdown ends.
